A Gathering Place Since 1903

The Carnegie has a rich history stretching back to 1903, when it was first established as a place for the people of Elwood, Indiana to gather and learn. Today, the library continues to serve as a gathering place, but now for some of life's most joyous occasions. In 2021, the property was purchased with the goal of preserving its history and reviving the space for modern use. The Carnegie is now accepting bookings!

A Place to Gather Since 1903

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN CHECK OFF YOUR VENUE WISH LIST…

  • 15-hour exclusive library access (8AM - 11PM) plus one additional hour for clean-up

  • Large, fully-furnished bridal suite with LED vanity mirror wall

  • Fully-furnished groom’s suite/game room with pool table, foosball and darts

  • Main-level octagonal circulation desk for bar and/or catering (bar/catering service not included)

  • Modern ADA restrooms on main and basement levels

  • Catering kitchen with catering prep tables, microwave, refrigerator and freezer 1200+ SF basement-level multi-purpose room for cocktail hour, wedding ceremony or other use

  • Set-up and tear-down services (excluding décor to be provided & set up by renting party)

  • Trash removal and cleaning service following event (renting party responsible for monitoring trash during event and placing all trash in proper receptacles at end of event)

  • 84”x72” copper pipe arch (florals not included)

  • One on-site pre-event planning meeting

  • One-hour ceremony rehearsal prior to wedding (date of rehearsal subject to library availability)

  • Access to full service or day-of event coordination services (contracted separately)

  • Dining tables and chairs for ~150 guests and buffet/catering tables

  • Coordination of linen service (linens charged separately from third party vendor)

Historic Dining and Reception Area

The Carnegie's historic dining and reception area is a unique space that maintains the charm of the original library. The main feature of this area is the original oak octagonal circulation desk, which has been repurposed to serve as a unique bar or food service area. This space is fully climate controlled for the comfort of your guests.

Additionally, the space is characterized by high ceilings, grand windows that allow natural light to flood in, and original architectural details that add to the antique charm. This venue has something to offer for any type of event, from a lively reception to an intimate gathering.

Catering Kitchen

Our catering kitchen is fully equipped to handle the culinary needs of your event. This space allows for seamless food service, whether you're hosting a small gathering or a large wedding.

Bridal Suite

The spacious bridal suite provides a tranquil place for the bride and her party to prepare for the big day.

This space is designed with comfort and elegance in mind, providing an ideal setting for pre-wedding preparations and getting ready snapshots.

Groom’s Billiards Room

The large groom’s billiards room offers a relaxed, masculine space for the groom and his party to prepare for the event.

This room is equipped with a billiards table, providing an enjoyable pastime for your party.
